It struck me today as I was having a conversation with my therapist over the phone, that mental health could be so convoluted. To learn how interconnected our histories are to the state of our mental health now. Right now, this very minute. The chain reactions, the reaffirming beliefs, the random coincidences that were enough to reinforce the conditioning. How over time, sometimes without our knowledge we are retraumatized and reconditioned into continuing with these beliefs and behaviors.
When we talk about layers of mental health and addiction we not only want to talk about the layers of trauma, but also the layers of recovery an self-discovery. I feel the onion kind of represents the layers of mental health and addictions but also that when dealing with either, you sometimes end up in tears.
(also I was born in 1989 and Shrek was pinnacle in my movie watching history)
I hope that in reading these pages you take comfort in knowing that we are human and learning and growing as we go. So please sit back and enjoy learning and growing with us.
